With a reputation for offering a private-college atmosphere at a public university, Tech, a selective admissions university, is dedicated to challenging its students through the efforts of caring faculty members who are passionate about teaching, advising, and research.
Academics
Research
Research is integral to the purpose of Louisiana Tech University. Research leads to discovery and the advancement of new knowledge. Through discovery, faculty and students share in the learning process and contribute to the betterment of society. Through research, the faculty better understand the limits of knowledge in their disciplines and can ensure that curricula maintain relevancy. Our students are then better prepared to be more effective in supporting the growth of their future employers. They are also more prepared to pursue advanced studies and continue in the life-long pursuit of learning.
Athletics
LA Tech Athletics fields 16 NCAA Division I men's and women's teams and have competed in the Western Athletics Conference since 2001. The Bulldogs and Lady Techsters have won 29 team titles during its 11-year membership in the WAC and have one of the state's richest athletics traditions with five national championships, dozens of post-season appearances, and hundreds of All-Americans. Beginning in 2013, Louisiana Tech will enter a new era in intercollegiate competition as they officially join Conference USA.
Students
With a reputation for offering a private-college atmosphere at a public university, Louisiana Tech is dedicated to challenging its students through the efforts of caring faculty members who are passionate about teaching, advising, and research. Founded in 1894, this selective-admissions university offers more than 80 undergraduate majors and a wide variety of graduate degrees from within 32 master's and 11 doctoral programs.
Faculty & Staff
As a comprehensive teaching and research university, you will interact with leading professors (even as a freshman) and get to do research as you explore career options. Of Louisiana Tech's 416 faculty members, more than 80 percent hold the doctoral or equivalent degree in their fields. Software engineers, newspaper editors, published authors, practicing architects and medical doctors all bring their expertise to the classroom to enhance learning.
Alumni & Friends
Louisiana Tech University continuously turns out some of the best and brightest politicians, businessmen, entertainers and athletes. A degree from Louisiana Tech University is more than a diploma to hang on the wall ... it's a door opening to a world of opportunities. Some of our most notable alumni include Terry Bradshaw (NFL Hall of Fame), Kix Brooks (Brooks & Dunn), Rosemary Ellis (Editor-In-Chief, Good Housekeeping), Teresa Weatherspoon (WNBA All-Star and Olympic Gold Medalist), and Glen Post (CEO of CenturyLink).
Ruston
Louisiana Tech is located in Ruston, a friendly, historic town of 22,000 that is close-knit with its university neighbor. Students are actively engaged in cooperative projects with Ruston businesses and serve in local civic and church organizations. Ruston is home to parks, lakes and world-class mountain-biking trails.

Registrar’s alert: Fall quarter academic date changes

Due to the impact of Hurricane Katrina, the following changes have been made to the fall 2005 academic calendar:

- General registration and tuition/fee payment is Wednesday, Sept. 7, through Friday, Sept. 9. (Previously, it was Sept. 7-8.)

- The second purge for nonpayment of tuition and fees, originally scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 8, is cancelled. There will not be a second purge for fall 2005.

- The period for late registration and drop/add courses runs Monday, Sept. 12, through Friday, Sept. 16. The $50 late registration penalty is waived for fall 2005.

- The first day of classes is Monday, Sept. 12. Faculty will meet classes on Friday, Sept. 9; however, instruction officially begins on Monday, Sept. 12.
