Three Louisiana Tech students receive national engineering scholarships
Three students from Louisiana Tech University’s College of Engineering and Science have been awarded 2010-2011 academic scholarships from Tau Beta Pi, one of the nation’s leading and most prestigious engineering honor societies.
Only six scholars from Louisiana universities will receive this scholarship, with half of those coming from Louisiana Tech. Only seven other schools in the nation had three or more scholars selected.
In all, 102 students, all previously elected as members of Tau Beta Pi, were chosen to receive one of the scholarships from the honor society out of a total applicant pool of 389.
The students chosen from Louisiana Tech are Joshua Gidlow, a mechanical engineering major from Lake Charles, Louisiana; Colin Hosli, an electrical engineering major from Harahan, Louisiana; and Louis Reis, a biomedical and chemical engineering major from Ococe, FL.
In addition to their studies, Reis is pursuing undergraduate research that would create a glucose sensor for an artificial pancreas and Hosli is a captain on Louisiana Tech’s Shell Eco-Marathon Team.
Each student will receive $2,000 for engineering study during his or her student year. The scholarships are based on excellent academics, campus leadership and service and promise of future contributions to the engineering profession.
