Louisiana Tech gearing up for Happening XXXI

Jul 2, 2012 | General News

It happens every year at Louisiana Tech and this summer is no exception.
Before the start of the 2012-13 academic year and prior to the 2012 college football season kicking off, Tech alums, fans and friends will gather once again as the University celebrates its Happening XXXI at the Monroe Civic Center.
This year’s Happening will take place Aug. 9 with a 6 p.m. reception followed by dinner at 7 p.m.

The event, which will be hosted by the Louisiana Tech Alumni Association, will feature Louisiana Tech President Dan Reneau, who will highlight the institution’s activities and accomplishments of the past year and talk on the theme of this year’s event: The Future of Louisiana Tech from Academics to Athletics.
Director of Athletics Bruce Van De Velde and Head Football Coach Sonny Dykes will also be on hand to provide outlooks for the upcoming university sports seasons.
“Alumni and fans from the Mississippi River to Minden enjoy this family event each year,” said Ryan Richard, director of alumni relations. “It’s a great time to catch up with old friends and meet new ones.  It’s like Tech’s Family Reunion!  Anyone associated with or who loves this University like so many of us will not want to miss it.”
Richard feels Happening has even become a tradition itself for football fans and Tech alums and said it draws people back to north Louisiana from all over the country to share in the success and growth of their university.
“We’ve been working hard on planning this year’s Happening and it’s generating a lot of excitement,” incoming Alumni Association President Jason Bullock said. “With the way the University continues growing, and the eagerly-anticipated athletics move to join Conference USA, Louisiana Tech is creating a lot of excitement. This even provides the perfect opportunity to celebrate past successes while also looking toward the future. And there are some big things coming up in Tech’s future. We just hope we have a good crowd come out and celebrate with us as we build on our success and keep moving forward.”
As it has in recent years, Argent Financial Group, a valued supporter of Louisiana Tech, will again serve as the presenting sponsor of the Happening.
“The Happening is Tech’s annual summer Family Reunion, and it’s eagerly anticipated by alumni and friends as a celebration of the amazing accomplishments of the University’s alumni, students, faculty and staff,” said Vice President for University Advancement Corre Stegall. “It’s a time to enjoy being together with friends who share great pride in the Louisiana Tech tradition of excellence. This year’s event promises to be more exciting than ever before because of the pride we share in the unprecedented progress that’s been made.”
