Szymanski, who holds the Eva Cunningham Endowed Professorship in Education at Louisiana Tech, will give a presentation titled, “Sport Specific Lateral Speed and Agility.”  The talk will focus on defining lateral speed and agility, and discuss the numerous components that should be addressed when training athletes.  Various performance tests will be demonstrated and normative data tables will be presented.

“Often times, athletes simply run through drills without knowing how they specifically apply to their sport,” said Szymanski.  “If I can help the coaches in attendance understand the ‘how and why’ about these drills, I am confident they will learn something new about lateral speed and agility training.  It is my hope that the audience will learn how to correctly perform and instruct these drills to safely enhance their athlete’s performance.”

During the presentation, Szymanski will discuss current research on agility training as well as demonstrations of specific ladder, mini hurdle, and cone drills.  Examples of daily and weekly sessions will also be discussed followed by all attendees participating in a hands-on application session of lateral speed and agility drills.
