48th Louisiana Composers Consortium concert to be performed
Louisiana Tech’s School of Performing Arts and department of music will present the 48th Louisiana Composers Consortium Concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 6.
Dr. Joe L. Alexander, professor of music, will host the concert. Alexander is the head of music theory/composition, as well as the low brass instructor. The concert will feature music by Alexander and Tech student composer Josh Mattison. Many of the pieces will be world premieres.
“Over the years, I have been delighted to work with several wonderful composers from across the state,” Alexander said. “It has been a great vehicle for me to get performances of my music, and for my students to have pieces performed. Over the years, I have had a lot of support from the Tech music faculty. Many faculty members have performed my music in Ruston, Monroe and in Natchitoches.”
Dr. Al Benner from Natchitoches’ Louisiana School for Math, Science and the Arts started the Louisiana Composers Consortium. The group’s first concert was performed Oct. 9, 1999, in Natchitoches. The first Ruston concert was held Feb. 2, 2003, on Tech’s campus.
The concert will be held in the Recital Hall, located in Howard Auditorium. Admission is free.
