Louisiana Tech family, friends and supporters:

There was an event recently that has not occurred on the Louisiana Tech University campus in over 50 years: the investiture of the president.  The investiture brought together faculty, staff, students, alumni, community and colleagues from across the state to celebrate Louisiana Tech University. It was a time to pay tribute to those who have made Tech a great institution and a time to look forward to the future.

President Les Guice

President Les Guice

The ROTC Valkyrie Honor Guard, Symphonic Band, Chamber Singers and Concert Choir, Student Advancement Teams, and SGA President showcased the tremendous student talents that we have on our campus through their spectacular and inspirational performances.

Many people contributed to making this a great day, but I particularly appreciate the Investiture Planning Committee for their efforts to make the day so special for all. Many people from communities across the state participated in the investiture, and I thank all of the members of the Board of Regents, the University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors, university presidents and officers, and distinguished visitors who honored us with their presence.

I would also like to express my sincere appreciation for the faculty and staff of Louisiana Tech, whose commitment to the students and to advancing our vision is truly the keystone of our future growth and success.

In my investiture address, I highlighted Tech’s successes, challenges, and plans for the future.

Louisiana Tech’s success has always been measured by the success of its students, and we have a long record of graduates who have emerged from this institution to be exceptional leaders in their professions and major contributors to society. Our students will continue to be our first priority, and we will always strive to provide them with an education that is second to none.

Our world has become a global marketplace where information, goods and services are only a mouse-click away.  Unless we can provide an education that produces graduates that are as good as those anywhere else in the world, our state and region will not be able to compete with others globally.  That means less prosperity and negative impacts on the quality of life for all Louisiana citizens.

By placing a high priority on the recruitment and retention of a diverse student body and incrementally increasing the size of the student body, the University will achieve the critical mass necessary to compete with other national research universities. Tech will continue to encourage the growth of the knowledge economy in our state by responding to the needs of employers who have increasing demands for well-educated and highly skilled graduates, and Louisiana Tech will continue to provide strong leadership for Louisiana’s future economic competitiveness.

Our strategic plan also emphasizes the need to continue to enhance student learning opportunities, to enhance our research programs to national prominence, and to maximize the impacts of our innovation enterprise to support economic development in Louisiana.

I have tremendous respect for Tech’s traditions, values, and principles – principles embodied in the Tenets of Tech. And I am committed to work with our university, community and state leadership to the help Tech achieve the high levels of progress that the Tech family and the State of Louisiana expect and deserve.

I owe a special thanks to all for the support and for making the Investiture a special day of celebration for the institution and community.

Sincerely,
Dr. Les Guice
President
