The Louisiana Tech student chapters of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and Associated General Contractors (AGC) organizations announced outstanding juniors and seniors at the annual Civil Engineering and Construction Engineering Technology Winter Banquet. The students were selected for their leadership and academic excellence during 2017.
The ASCE named Dayne Ghormley and Allie Thurman as Outstanding Juniors and Gloria Mwebaza and Josh Ridley as Outstanding Seniors. The AGC named Shelby Bishop as its Outstanding Junior and Blair Eidt, Patrick Harris and Ryan Laborde as Outstanding Seniors.
“They are highly motivated, hard-working students,” said Dr. Shaurav Alam, assistant professor of civil engineering and construction engineering technology, associate director of research for the Trenchless Technology Center and advisor for the Louisiana Tech AGC chapter. “I’m very proud of each of them.”
Each of the recipients received a $1,000 scholarship.

In addition to cash awards, students were presented with plaques by leaders of their organizations. Professional engineer and 2018 President-Elect of the national branch of the ASCE, Robin Kemper, presented the awards to the ASCE students. Kemper was the keynote speaker at the banquet. The ASCE awards were sponsored by Shreveport branch of the organization. Ken Naquin, CEO of the Louisiana Associated General Contractors, presented AGC awards.
“Academic excellence, work ethic and ability to lead their respective organizations are some of the keys that helped them win these awards,” said Dr. Sanjay Tewari, assistant professor of civil engineering and construction engineering technology, and faculty advisor for the Louisiana Tech ASCE chapter. “Congratulations to all of the students. I wish them even more success once they graduate.”
