Make plans to visit Howard Auditorium on April 7 for the Percussion Festival. The event will showcase members of the Louisiana Tech Percussion Studio along with guest artist Bradley Meyer.
For several years, the Percussion Studio has hosted the North Louisiana Youth Percussion Ensemble Festival, which has included performances by high school ensembles from across the region along with a world-class guest artist. This year’s event will focus directly on featured guest Bradley Meyer.
Dr. Meyer is the Director of Percussion Studies at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas. As a performer, he has made appearances in Austria, Taiwan, France, South Africa, and Slovenia. He is also a published composer having written several works for snare drum, multi-percussion, and percussion ensemble.
The festival begins with an open rehearsal at 10 a.m. Saturday. Next, Dr. Meyer will present a clinic on drum set at 1 p.m., followed by a masterclass with members of the Percussion Studio. The day will culminate with an exciting concert at 4 p.m., which will feature Dr. Meyer and members of the Louisiana Tech Percussion Ensemble.
All events are open to the public, and all ages and levels are encouraged to attend.
“Having seen Dr. Meyer perform and present around the country, I can attest we are in for a special treat,” said Gregory Lyons, associate professor and percussion faculty member. “He is a dynamic performer and educator, and we are fortunate to have him in our area.”
Admission to the open rehearsal and the masterclass on Saturday is free. Tickets to the clinic and concert are $5 for adults and $3 for students. All events are free for Tech faculty, staff, and students with ID.
