The Louisiana Tech University bachelor’s degree program in Health Informatics and Information Management (HIIM) was named the No. 5 most affordable program in the United States by Healthcare Administration Degree Programs, an online resource for students to learn more about undergraduate and graduate programs in healthcare administration.
Louisiana Tech’s HIIM programs emphasize the development of skills for the management of health-related information and the systems used to collect, store, retrieve, disseminate, and communicate information for the support of enterprise operations and clinical and business decision making in healthcare or related organizations.
The Louisiana Tech program was the only one in the state recognized in this ranking, which used NCES College Navigator data on accredited online degree programs as well as their costs.
“Students with this in-demand degree will learn to use the latest in technology and information management to meet the challenges of modern medicine,” according to the ranking. “Online health information programs teach students about the power of big data.”
In addition to this ranking, the Department of Health Informatics and Information Management was recognized for its master’s program by TheBestColleges.org. The program was the only one in the state of Louisiana so recognized, and was named No. 17 in the country. The ranking also used National Center for Education Statistics data to determine the best schools for graduate-level achievement in HIIM.
“To determine the best online master’s in health informatics programs, we looked at the most important factors prospective students, mainly common predictors of future success and a school’s commitment to online programs,” the article said. “This boils down to admissions rate, student loan default rate, retention rate, graduation rate, and the percent of students enrolled in online classes.”
