Tech alums, fans gather to celebrate the future at Happening XXIX

Jul 8, 2010 | General News

Louisiana Tech Football has had an offseason for the ages.
The past six months has seen the resignation of a head coach during the heart of the recruiting season, the hiring of a new head coach to move the program forward, the appointment of a new athletics director, and the launch of Quest for Excellence – a historic $20 million campaign to construct a state-of-the-art athletic training facility in the south end zone of Joe Aillet Stadium.
Louisiana Tech can certainly claim these as the ‘Dawg’ Days of Summer.
The excitement and anticipation of the upcoming season, however, will serve as the centerpiece of Happening XXIX presented by Argent Financial Group, August 12, at 6 p.m. at the Monroe Civic Center.
“Happening is the Alumni Association’s premier event of the year and has become a tradition unto itself,” said Ryan Richard, director of Louisiana Tech’s Alumni Association.  “Over the past 29 years, Happening has grown into one of the most anticipated and attended events on the Louisiana Tech calendar.”
Happening XXIX, the 2010 edition of Louisiana Tech’s pre-season fan and alumni gathering, will feature presentations by Louisiana Tech President Dan Reneau and new Head Football Coach Sonny Dykes.
Reneau will highlight the institutional activities and achievements of the past year, while Dykes will provide his outlook for the upcoming 2010 football season.
“Year after year, Happening continues to be the one event that alums and fans look most forward to,” said Lomax Napper, immediate past president of the Louisiana Tech Alumni Association.  “It’s all about camaraderie and the opportunity to gather together, get reacquainted and gear up for the upcoming athletic and academic year.”
Steve Davison, prominent Louisiana Tech alumnus and chair of the Quest for Excellence Leadership Team, believes the growth of this event clearly demonstrates just how much the university has evolved over the past few years.
“Alumni can see how far their school has come and they are excited about what the future holds for Louisiana Tech,” said Davison.  “Our athletics program, because of the outstanding leadership of our various coaches and recent support from our University and dedicated fans, is positioned to achieve a high level of success and national recognition.”
In addition to Reneau and Dykes, this year’s Happening will feature Pro Football Hall of Famer and Louisiana Tech alum Terry Bradshaw who will be on hand to share his thoughts on the direction of the program and to rally support for the Quest for Excellence athletics campaign.
With the motivational triumvirate of Reneau, Dykes and Bradshaw, Louisiana Tech expects to break all previous Happening attendance records.
“We are so excited to have Terry Bradshaw with us this year for what is sure to be the largest Happening in school history,” said Richard.  “He is truly one of Tech’s most dedicated and distinguished alums.”
“Bulldog fans are some of the most passionate and knowledgeable in all of Louisiana,” said Napper.  “They eagerly support the program and they take a great deal of pride in being part of something so special.”
