Tech Eco-marathon team selected for global Shell advertising campaign

Louisiana Tech University’s award-winning Eco-marathon team and their vehicle, “Hot Rod” has been selected for featuring in an international Shell advertising campaign that highlights the Shell Eco-marathon mileage challenge.

Louisiana Tech’s Urban Concept Vehicle, ‘Hot Rod’

The advertisement with the headline, “Let’s Fuel Their Imagination to Think of More Innovative Energy Solutions” will feature a photo of Louisiana Tech team members Jeremy Kirby, Sam Wade, Courtney Jennings, Nathaniel Pruden, Shelton Bryant, Dennis Dufrene of LaRose, and faculty adviser, Dr. Heath Tims, associate professor of mechanical engineering.

“A growing population means the world will continue to need sufficient, affordable, and smart energy,” said Mark Singer, Shell Eco-marathon Global Project Manager.  “The event reflects our commitment to develop innovative energy solutions by engaging and connecting people interested in the energy challenge of tomorrow – and Louisiana Tech is helping us to do just that.”

Tims is thrilled to have his Louisiana Tech engineering students featured in a global advertising campaign.

“It’s a great opportunity for Louisiana Tech and our team to be showcased around the world demonstrating our students’ pursuit of excellence,” said Tims.

The student team from Louisiana Tech and their “Hot Rod” vehicle won first place in the 2013 Urban Concept diesel division of the 2013 Shell Eco-marathon Americas competition, achieving 315.9 mpg.  Louisiana Tech has fielded a team in the event since the beginning of the Americas competition, which began at the Auto Club Speedway in California in 2007.
