Tech student, professor winners of international competition
A Louisiana Tech professor of music and music major were among the 15 winners in the Fifteen Minutes of Fame: Kenyon Wilson composer’s competition.
Because of their success, Joshua Mattison, a senior from Benton, and Dr. Joe L. Alexander, who also serves as head of theory, composition and low brass, will have their pieces performed at the 2014 International Tuba/Euphonium Conference.
The international conference will be held May 23 at the University of Indiana in Bloomington.
For the competition Alexander and Mattison competed in, 67 compositions were submitted to Kenyon Wilson for selection.
Wilson teaches tuba and music theory at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He is the principal tubist with the Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra in Alabama and the Augusta Symphony Orchestra in Georgia.
The Fifteen Minutes of Fame series was designed by producer and composer Robert Voisey “to create an opportunity for composers to get their works performed and heard by audiences around the world. Over the many individual competitions, over 600 composers have been chosen from more than 30 countries around the world; their compositional style and aesthetic are as diverse as the different cultures they represent.”
