COES receives support from ExxonMobil’s University Grant Program
ExxonMobil Corporation has awarded Louisiana Tech University $22,000 to support several programs in the College of Engineering and Science, as part of the company’s 2014 University Grant Program.
Representatives from ExxonMobil were on the Louisiana Tech campus Wednesday to and presented engineering and science faculty and administrators with a check to be distributed among the College’s civil engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering and electrical engineering programs.
ExxonMobil’s higher education initiatives focus on supporting programs that improve teaching and learning in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, or STEM. The company also supports diversity-based education programs and provides funding for Louisiana Tech’s chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers and its Society of Women Engineers.
Dean of the College of Engineering and Science Dr. Hisham Hegab says these funds are vital to the College particularly during these financially challenging times in higher education.
“Grants like this one from ExxonMobil allow us to greatly enhance the academic experience of our students,” said Hegab. “The funds are used for a variety of educational purposes including scholarships, field trips, visiting speakers, equipment purchases and student and faculty travel. We are grateful to Exxon Mobil for their continued support of our College.”
Louisiana Tech’s College of Engineering and Science has benefited from ExxonMobil’s higher education funding program over the past several years. The company also recruits heavily at Louisiana Tech and annually hires students from the various disciplines in the College of Engineering and Science.
