Farm production sale to raise funds for agricultural sciences program

Animals suitable for raising, breeding, riding and consumption will be featured in Louisiana Tech University’s 47th University Farm Production Sale scheduled for 1 p.m. May 6 on Louisiana Tech’s South Campus.

Dr. William Green (right) works with a student in Louisiana Tech’s School of Agricultural Sciences and Forestry.

Included in the sale will be Black Baldy heifers and F-1 (Brahman/Angus) heifers that will be exposed to a Black Angus bull. Additional cattle include registered Polled Hereford heifers, cow/calf pairs, and other crossbred heifers. Consumers can take advantage of finished market steers, hogs, and a lamb. Those market animals will be processed at the Tech Meat Science Laboratory at no additional cost to the buyer.

The sale will also offer four Quarter Horses, including riding horses, a broodmare, and other prospects, as well as a Tennessee Walker.

“Besides raising money for Louisiana Tech’s agricultural sciences program, the sale, organized by the program’s faculty, staff and students, will provide an excellent learning experience for the students involved,” said Dr. William Green, director of the School of Agricultural Sciences and Forestry.
